UV-F (ultraviolet fluorescence) imaging analysis allows the detection of chromophores (decomposition products) of the polymer encapsulating the glass or of the back sheet (generally EVA – ethylene vinyl acetate) before they become visible to the naked eye. Therefore, this analysis is used to evaluate the aging effects of the encapsulating polymer, the moisture and oxygen permeability of the module, the presence and history of any micro cracks in the cells (not visible with thermographic analysis), as well as corrosion phenomena affecting the bus bars.
We recommend UV-F analysis in the following cases:
- Following hail
- Underperforming system
- Problems resulting from poor insulation
- Aesthetic anomalies (“snail slime”, ribbon oxidation, backsheet not intact, yellowing of the module, etc.)
UV-F analysis can be carried out in all seasons, mainly recommended at night.
